Apr 14/15 – am and pm – Both students 2 flights

This morning wind was more then forecasted so we did not even unpack the gear. Instead we spend the morning watching and dissecting Youtube PPG crash videos and also “Risk and Reward” instructional video.

The PM session went super well. Great conditions at the field. Both Mr ? and Robin managed 2  flight using reverse inflation. Robin unfortunately did not get into the seat but we will sort it out tomorrow.

All 4 landing were done on students feet and not knees as it usually happens on first couple of flights.

Super well done and congratulation both on first solo flight and second to confirm it!

Apr 13/15 pm – No training too windy

Apr 13/15 pm – No training too windy

Apr 13/15 am – Great morning

Both students polished off their reverse technique and are now able to stabilize the glider in forward position wearing the engine.

Super windy this pm – no training.

I feel both will fly Tuesday pm

Apr 12/15 am and pm – What an amazing sunny day

We had great morning session where both students mastered reverse handling. We then started the motors which proved to be quite challenging and frustrating.

After more reverse handling this time with paramotors on and introduction to forward inflations. Another long day – I am tired

Apr 11/15 am and pm – First PPG course of this year

Two students in first PPG course of this year. Robin and Mr ? who ask me not to put his name and pics on web which I respect.

Ground school till 3:30 pm then off to the field for learning how to hook up and ground handle. Had to use small trainer gliders as wind was gusting over 20 km/h. Did not get home till 9 pm. Super long day but rewarding sunny day.

Apr 9/15 – You should be member of UPAC

The Ultralight Pilots Association of Canada, UPAC, is the national voice for Canadian Ultralight Pilots. The organization was formed in 1986 when the Ultralight Aircraft Association of Canada (UAAC) and the Microlight Owners and Pilots of Canada (MOPAC) joined forces. UPAC speaks for Canadian ultralight aviation interests in discussions with the federal government. We are committed to protecting the rights and privileges of all ultralight pilots and owners to assure freedom of flight in a minimally controlled flying environment. Our only focus is ultralight flying.

Yearly membership is $40 ($60 for a family) and includes 12 months of Light Flight, our monthly ultralight publication. You can join UPAC by using our convenient online form here.

The organization is run by an elected Board of Directors who volunteer their time and energy on your behalf. Half of the directors are elected every year at the Annual General Meeting. The officers are elected at the first Board meeting after that.

March 8/15 – Private pilot of the year!

As you may or may not know I got my Private Pilot License in April of last year.

Last night our St. Catharines Flying Club hosted an Annual Wing Banquet. It is dress up dinner affair where certificates of achievement are handed over to pilots who either get their Recreational permit or Private Pilot License or additional ratings such as night rating, multiengine, IFR, commercial etc.

It was a great time. I have received my PPL certificate but I was also announced as Private Pilot of the Year! The flying club combines the student’s score from the written exam and from the practical flight test and who ever scores the highest, will get their name on the “Private Pilot of the Year” trophy.

March 6/ 15 – Important, please read and provide feedback to TC

From Kathy Lubitz, UPAC:

I’ve attached the text of new aerodrome consultation requirement – NPA -Responsible Aerodrome Development. It requires all new aerodromes and changes to existing ones to have a consultation process completed before it can go ahead. See the details in the NPA (attached). To see the other associated documents go to http://bit.ly/1EOk4u4

This will be a real hardship for anyone wanting to put in a small private grass strip.

The slant of the proposed regulation can be seen in the Triage note on page 4 of 12 that says a “small” aerodrome is considered to be 100 employees or less and a gross annual income of between $30,000 and $5 million. Some aerodromes have no income and no employees. Recreational aviation was ignored in the development of this NPA.

Also attached is a word document of my general impression of the NPA text and some specific problems with it. There are many other problems.

This is serious! . Take the time to read and understand the proposed regulation and then send in your comments. Email address and deadlines are in the attached Word file. Circulate this email and ask others to do the same.

President
Ultralight Pilots Association of Canada.

If you have trouble rereading the attachments, contact me and I will get them to you in another format.
