Powered Paragliding Ontario - Paramotor PPG lessons - Aug 28/03

Aug 28, 2003.       Powered training with Kelbe family.

Kelbe family is here, Kelbe family is here. Last time I saw Rick, Melissa, Bobby and Davie was sometime in May. Well, they are here now ready to fly. We met at the field early in the morning and grass was wet. Fuel mixed. Who will do the honors. Rick how about you? Push the start button and Spider fires up running nice and smooth....

Melissa was next to complete 10 min of power on power off on paramotor ground brake in.

Meanwhile everybody else was working on their paraglider ground handling skills. A few pointers here and there and everybody was up to standard required for  first solo flight.

We had variable winds up to 5 knots. Not the best wind for practice but it could have bee too windy as well and we would not be able to do anything.

I have decided to go for flight as Kelbe family had their lunch. Nice flight. The equipment works like a charm

After lunch Rick told me that Bobby is not quite sure about flying solo so would there be possibility for tandem flight. The winds were now coming from SSW at 7 knots so I said "Let's do it".

After few "busted" forward inflations due to the shifting wind we were in our take off run. Run, run, run I kept yelling and Bobby did just like that. We were in the air and it was time to relax.

Oh yeah. New helmet, and black sunglasses a bit of a scruff .... that is the look I am going for.... Rugged PPG pilot.

I handed the camera to Bobby and he took some pictures.

More Bobby's pics.

After we landed. Rick was up for flight. One bad inflation and on his second he was up in the air.

We have practiced few things such as letting go of brakes, steeper turns, and landing approaches. The whole area of the training field was radiating heat so Rick was flying at 40% or less power for most of the time.

After 25 min it was time to land.  Due to the heat our approach calculation got out of whack and Rick landed in the weeds.

No big deal. Smooth landing with bit of a trip forward.

Congratulations pilot Rick and co-pilot Bobby on your first flights.

Next was Davie to go for his first solo but at this point as you see there was no wind. We tried couple of times but no luck. Oh, well there will be many more days Davie when you will fly....
